First Project....yoyo's

So, my current obession is making headbands and what better object to decorate them with, than a beautiful (or funky) flower. In the beginning, I was making each yoyo flower by cutting a circle then stitching around the edge, needless to say it was taking me a while. Now, I'm totally a "wing-it" kind of gal, but when I saw this handy-dandy little contraption for making yoyo's I knew I had to have it. Glorious! I think it might be one of the greatest inventions ever (along with just about every other time saving thing I can find). I love it and I can whip out those little boogers -bet ya think think you'd see the word boogers here- FAST! Here is my quick tutorial on using the contraption.

First, you place your fabric in the gadget and trim away the excess leaving a small bit of fabric around the edges.
Now you begin to stitch sround the edge, making sure you begin you sewing from the backside catching some of the fabric you left for the seam allowance

Repeat this process around the entire disk. When you have reached the beginning stitch, go through it once more then remove your needle.
*Do Not tie your knot at this point****
Once your needle is out, pop out the disk
Carefully remove the inner disk from your fabric
Here comes the fun...take the ends of the thread and gently pull them to start forming the flower
Keep pulling until your center is nice and tight
Now you can tie the thread together and form a knot. Snip the ends of the thread so you can't see them.
Go to town! I sure did! Like I said, it may be the best invention evah!

Let's get it started...

My boys love this song, so I thought it would be an appropriate title for my first post of my new blog!  I am very excited to begin this adventure with y'all.  (Hey I'm southern, y'all comes with the territory, so get used to it!)
I guess I should start out by explaining what I will be doing on this blog, so I think we will have to travel back in time some 11 to 12 years ago (yikes, I'm getting old) when I got my very first Pottery Barn catalog.  Come on girls, you all know what a special day that was when you first found out about PB! Well, let's just say that I skimmed through it and threw it away - can't afford ANYTHING it that stinking thing- HA!  I memorized it front to back and then decided that, "Hey, I can make this" looking at some distressed picture frames.  So off I went to the Dollar store and bought some picture frames and a can of spray paint. After some drying and a little work with some sandpaper they looked just like the ones in the catalog.  I was just a little bit pleased with myself and received tons of complements on them (still do actually).  This adventure led to me working with floral wire and some glass jars, for flower vases, just like I had seen.  Needless to say from that point on, whenever I see something that I like in a store or even just out and about (Disney World, saw a cute flower hat and some awesome t-shirts people had on) my first thought is....hey, I can make this.
I hope you will enjoy my adventures or misadventures!  Goodness knows there will be plenty, from crafting to cooking, I can't wait to share my experiences with you!
I hope everyone has a blessed day!
